Well, like most Baptist churches, we did not reach consensus on digging deeper into the Person and Work of Christ—so we are moving to 2 Corinthians. Interestingly, while preparing for 2 Corinthians, I was reading Acts 18, where Luke describes Paul’s work planting the church at Corinth. Luke records, “When Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia, Paul was occupied with the word, testifying to the Jews that the Christ was Jesus” (Acts 18:5). Being able to explain what we mean by the proclamation of Christ is essential for all disciples of Christ. Therefore, we have included a picture of the Person and Work chart I used last week below.

What percentage of people think Christ functions like a last name? Even when the biblical text does not include the definite article, it should be read and understood that way, as in “the Christ Jesus” or “the Lord Jesus the Christ.” The chart answers the questions of who He is and what the Second Person of the Triune God of the Bible does.

Berean, if we are a Great Commission Church committed to making disciples who make disciples, then believer’s baptism must become more central to our disciple-making. Baptism is not optional. Jesus commanded it. Peter directed the converts in Acts 2 to be baptized. “Repent and be baptized” was his directive. Nothing has changed. God still commands all people everywhere to repent and be baptized. Baptism is the believer’s public profession of faith in Christ. It is the sign of the believer’s entrance into the New Covenant and therefore can be administered only to believers.

Our next baptism service is scheduled for August 9.

Our next membership class is scheduled for August 9 as well. Please sign up using a white card; lunch and childcare will be provided at no charge.

Elders will conduct interviews with both teenagers and adults who desire to be baptized. Please contact the church office if you desire to be baptized so we can schedule an interview before August 9. I am so thankful for a team of elders who can preach and teach the Word of God.
